Creating redacted versions of documents

After you mark the document for redaction, you can create a redacted version of the document as a WordPerfect (.wpd), PDF (.pdf), or Microsoft (.doc) file. You must save the original document before creating the redacted version.

In the redacted version of the document, a black bar replaces the text that was marked for redaction. To maintain line spacing and pagination, the length of the black bar is similar to the length of the replaced text. It is unlikely, however, to equal the length of the text that it is replacing. As a result, this makes it difficult for someone to guess what the redacted text was.

You can further protect the confidentiality of the redacted text by using the following techniques, which make it more difficult for someone to decipher the text that was replaced:

 
Avoid redacting single words.
 
Replace single words with other words in the original document.
 
Apply a monospace font such as Courier to the redacted words in the original document. Because all letters are the same width, the text is harder to decipher.

To create a redacted WordPerfect document
