Why do I need to receive messages?

The messages provide the latest information about Corel WordPerfect Office, including information about updates to the software. The updates resolve known issues with the applications, thus providing you with the most up-to-date version of Corel WordPerfect Office.

Every time you start WordPerfect, the messaging service checks for new updates or new information. If a new information is available, you will receive a message two minutes after starting the application. You can then choose to read the message immediately or at a later time.


Do I need to be online to receive messages?

Yes. You need to be online to access the messaging service.


Do I need to read a message as soon as I receive it?

No. You can choose to read the message immediately or at a later time. If you decide to read the message at a later time, you can access the message window by clicking Help WordPerfect Office onestep Frequently asked questions Messages in WordPerfect and reopening the unread message.


Do I have to install the updates?

No. If you receive a message that an update is available, you don’t have to install it. You can close the message window and keep working or you can also click Install later. If you later decide to install the update, you can reopen the message.

To download and install an update, open WordPerfect, then click Help WordPerfect Office onestep Frequently asked questions Messages. Click the message that contains the information about the update, and follow the instructions provided in the message.


Can I get information about an update before I install it?

Yes. Every update message that is sent includes a link to the update release notes. These notes list the issues that are addressed in the update.


How do I prepare my computer for installing an update?

After the update is downloaded, you need to save your work and close all open Corel WordPerfect Office applications before you install the update. In addition, you may need to restart your computer for the update to take effect.


How do I install an update?

To download and install an update, open the message that contains the information about the update, and follow the instructions provided in the message.


I accidentally closed a message. Is it lost?

How can I stop receiving messages?

How often will I receive updates?

There is no set schedule for the release of product updates. One of the benefits of receiving messages is that they let you know when updates are released.


How do I know whether an update is already installed?

If you choose to receive messages, the messaging service will detect the update that you require. In other words, you will not receive messages for updates that are already installed on your computer.


What happens if I cancel the download process, or if I experience problems in the middle of downloading an update?

If a download or installation is incomplete, you can restart the process by reopening the message. When you restart the process, the download or installation starts where it left off.


I attempted to install the update, but I received a message that said I don’t have enough room on my computer. What should I do?

Your first option is to make space for the update on your computer and then click Retry.

If you don’t have time to free the space on your drive, however, you can click Cancel to retry at a later time. When you have the free space, you can reopen the message that contains the information about the update and follow the instructions provided.


Can my antivirus or firewall software be preventing me from receiving messages?

Yes. Both antivirus and firewall software can prevent you from receiving update messages. To get the latest product updates, visit www.corel.com/support to manually download and install the product updates.


Why am I receiving an error message every time I try to install an update?

If the Microsoft service known as Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) is disabled, it may be interfering with your ability to install updates. This service allows the transfer of files between a client and server.

To disable BITS, do the following:

In Category view, click the Performance and maintenance icon. If you are in Windows XP Classic view, proceed to step 3.

Double-click the Administrative tools icon.

Double-click the Services icon.

In the Background Intelligent Transfer Service properties dialog box, choose Manual or Automatic from the Startup type list box.


Why do I receive a password dialog box when I try to install an update?

To install any type of software, including product updates, you need to have administrator rights for the computer. If you don’t have these rights, you are prompted to provide a password. If you cannot provide the administrator password, you won’t be able to install the update.


Can I redirect messages to my existing e-mail account?

No. The messaging center is linked to Corel WordPerfect Office. Therefore, you can’t redirect the WordPerfect messages to
your e-mail account.


I’m a network administrator. Can I disable the messaging service before deploying Corel WordPerfect Office to others?

Yes. You can disable the messaging service before deploying Corel WordPerfect Office to others.
